Research Interests

My interest lies in exploring the role of macromolecular interactions as a modulator of enzyme's substrate specificity and inordinately high processivity. More specifically, I am exploring the highly regulated proteolytic processing of prothrombin to its active form thrombin (factor IIa) by prothrombinase enzyme complex. My efforts would be to take a multidisciplinary approach involving biochemical, structural and biological studies in order to unravel the details of prothrombinase assembly and its highly ordered action on macromolecular substrate, prothrombin. A deep understanding of this system may render development of new therapeutics through catalytic creativity or cofactor alteration.
